The Barrie & Community Family Health Team (BCFHT) is one of the largest family health teams in Ontario. We are comprised of Physicians, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Dietitians, Pharmacist, Diabetes and Respiratory Educators, Mental Health Counsellors, Social Workers, Occupational Therapist, Foot Care Nurse and an Administrative team. Our Team is focused on improving access to comprehensive, patient-centered, team-based primary health care, which supports self-management, emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention, and enhances the management of individuals with chronic diseases through programs that are well linked with other local and community services.

Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse

The BCFHT has an existing position for a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse to work within our Prenatal and Well Baby (PNWB) program. We are looking for a RN/RPN to support our multidisciplinary program. The PNWB clinic provides care for pregnant women and children (up to the age of 6 years) without a family doctor in the Barrie area. Our goal is to improve health outcomes for these individuals by providing health care, education, referrals and links to community supports, as appropriate. A Lactation Consultant within the PNWB program provides breastfeeding services.
Main Responsibilities

– Prepare exam rooms and escort patients to exam rooms as needed – Take vitals, growth measurements such as height and weight and urine dips – Maintain vaccination inventory and ensure vaccination storage guidelines are adhered to at all times – Prepare and provide vaccinations to patients as required – Review patient lab reports and communicate required information to the provider as needed – Provide health updates or information to patients over the phone or in person as needed and as directed by Physicians and/or Nurse Practitioners – Provide education to patients pertaining to prenatal and well baby health – Enter and retrieve patient health information into an electronic medical record (EMR) – Perform other nursing duties as required by the PNWB clinicians and staff |
Education, Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, with minimum of three years in a related field
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Experience working with prenatal and well baby patients
- Experience and knowledge of routine childhood immunizations
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical skills and knowledge in this patient population
- Adheres to legal and ethical principals relevant to the nursing practice
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and multitask efficiently
- Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, networking skills, teaching and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (Accuro an asset) and MS Office (Word, Outlook)
