Who We Are

A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with an advanced university education who provides personalized, quality health care to patients. Nurse Practitioners are regulated by the College of Nurses of Ontario (www.cno.org). Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioners work in community settings like family health teams, nurse practitioner lead clinics, community health centres, public health units, nursing homes and nursing stations. They manage a variety of illnesses and provide preventative care and education for healthy living. Health services are provided to individuals, families and communities. Nurse Practitioners work in partnership with Family Physicians, Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, Dietitians and Mental Health Counsellors to keep you and your family healthy and well.

Nurse Practitioner Services Overview

Nurse Practitioners provide care to patients of all ages within several local family practice offices and our specialty clinics within the Barrie and Community Family Health Team.  Nurse Practitioners focus on the whole person and family by preventing disease, promoting good health and curing illness.  They offer a variety of health services including:

  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illness and/or injuries
  • Order diagnostic tests and write prescriptions
  • Provide counselling and health education
  • Perform physical check-ups
  • Make referrals to specialists and other health care professionals
